Sprinkler Timer
A sprinkler timer is used to automatically water a lawn or garden. They all vary in complexity, some have one setting and turn on the sprinkler every day at a certain time while others have schedules and can alter their watering on weekends.
The most advanced sprinkler timer can sense the moisture outside as well. This allows them to automatically switch off when it is raining to conserve water. When the timer is programmed correctly they are very effective at conserving water. Sprinklers are most effective when it is cool outside to prevent water from evaporating.
Early morning is the best times for a sprinkler timer to be programmed to. There is less wind in the morning and water left on plants all night can cause diseases. This allows the water to reach the ground and be absorbed but also prevents people from being watered when the sprinklers unexpectedly turn on while playing a game of croquet or having a barbeque.
