Sprinkler Heads

Sprinkler heads come in two basic designs, one for long distances the other for close watering. Long distance heads are typically of the impact design that was invented in 1933 and eventually turned into the Rain Bird company. These use built up water pressure to shoot a stream of water a great distance as well as rotate the head to shoot the next stream in a different spot.

Impact sprinkler heads are used for irrigating large fields and bigger properties. They are not very effective at close ranges and tight quarters. For smaller spaces pop-up designs are much better suited. An impact sprinkler can spray over fifty feet in the distance.

Pop-up sprinkler heads have a spray diameter of 7-15 feet depending on the water pressure. When linked together they can effectively cover odd shaped yards and gardens. Their small spray size is great for small to average sized lawns and the heads are easy to replace or repair.
